This is possibly my favorite Madonna 'do. Fans will recognize it from the "Cherish" video. My hairdresser and I tried to replicate this hair many years ago. It was one of my many haircuts that looked great the day of, and then fell apart when I tried to replicate it at home. (Hi, ill-advised Dorothy Hamill in fifth grade!). I've been dying my hair various colors since I was 15, but when you go blond, you need a professional's help. When you can't afford pro-upkeep, you end up with Cheeto head or worse. (Yes, there are photos of this brief phase on Facebook and yes, I've untagged myself in them.)
Obviously, Madonna can afford professionals. That was the thing that struck me the most about the riveting Truth or Dare—the way that people were always picking at her. Doing her hair, adjusting her outfits, touching up her makeup. That would make me mental! But then I'm not being photographed 24/7, thank god. I guess a girl can get used to anything.
So happy birthday, Madge. I hope it's a fun one!

the slideshow affords a look at many of the material girl's hairdo styles...I think I love the early 80s, near mullet-styles.
