Robert Guskind's Gowanus Lounge (UPDATE: the site is back up!) was one of my favorite blogs and one of the biggest champions of this little website. Bob himself was a funny, great guy who loved Brooklyn fiercely. We weren't close, but I loved running into him around the neighborhood and always appreciated it when he'd link to one of my posts on GL or Curbed.
His presence was one I always stupidly took for granted. No more. Unfortunately, he was found dead Wednesday night, in his apartment.
Lots of activist-type blogs turn off potential sympathizers/readers by being shrill or humorless; Gowanus Lounge reported the important, sometimes saddening or maddening stuff, but always tempered it with funny stories like reports from Craigslist Missed Connections or some oddball found street sofa.
I don't fully understand what happened, but it doesn't really matter, does it? The end result is the same: No more Bob. Brooklyn is a much darker place today. My condolences to all his friends and family. You can read more about Bob here, here, here and here. But especially, check this one out from his pal Miss Heather at New York Shitty.
No information on what happened to bob. But, my condolences are extended as well to his family, friend and to his dedicated blog followers. RIP Bob.
