1) get beignets and cafe au lait at cafe du monde. but not in the middle of the day. first thing in the morning just when the sun comes up or late at night.
2) take the free ferry across the river to algiers, and then back.
3) st. charles car to the bend in the road at carrolton and then pecan waffles or pie at the camellia grill
4) drinks at lafitte's blacksmith shop at the top of bourbon st. (the tourists thin out there) and the r bar and inn in the marigny.
5) get a muffaletta at central grocery on decatur st. and take it to jackson park. sit. eat.
6) go to the revolving bar on top of the trade center. go at sunset, before it turns into a big trendy disco.
7) visit gram parsons' grave (requires car or taxi)
8) sit in the lobby of the monteleone and pretend to be famous. have a drink at the carousel bar.
9) go to pat o'brien's and get a hurricane to go. then go back to the acme oyster house and get in line. it won't take long.
10) go to the clover grill, have your order taken by a beautiful drag queen, and then have a hamburger cooked under a 'real american hubcap'.

I can definitely recommend #1 (amazing at midnight and the coffee is outstanding), #3 (found by mistake but definitely well worth it), #4 (just kidding... we only walked by but Bourbon Street is a trip in itself) and #5 (minus the muff sandwich)...

I wish I had done #10 though... maybe next year... and there's always Harrah's Casino for the girl with 3 columns...

The Vidiot

Stay off Bourbon. (One-eyed jacks is OK, but bourbon st. is yucky) Go to Decatur and Frenchman instead. Eat the Jambalaya and/or the Pasta with crawfish and tasso at Coops (on Decatur) and have a beer at Molly's as well. Parkway Bakery (Hagen St in Mid City) has the best po-boys. Ask for one "fully dressed". Liuzza's (on Bienville in mid-city) has the best gumbo. Cochon's (Tchoupitoulas) is a great high-end restaurant. OH! and don't forget to have breakfast at Mother's on Poydras and Tchoupitoulas.

Be prepared to be called "darlin'" A LOT.

Diet when you get home.

Have an Abita for me.
