Besides Barbara Bush being seen at the highly overrated Huckleberry Bar, there was more illegal activity next door at 5 Roebling. I could hear them pounding away Sunday afternoon, but I couldn't see them even after quishing my face against the kitchen window. So I grabbed my camera and climbed up to the roof for a better vantage point.
Four guys hammering and throwing bricks around. On a Sunday. When the BF and I left the house to go check out the new Radegast Beer Garden (highly recommended) we saw yet another guy prying the fence apart so he could go join in the fun. I'm not sure if these are official workers or just scavengers, but if the cops coming and handcuffing them (they're the same guys) the other night didn't scare them off, I tend to think Ms. Marie Grasso has authorized them to ignore DOB regulations and go right ahead and work. Speaking of the DOB, I called to report illegal work being done on a Sunday and they said they'd be by some time this week to check it out. "So you're going to send someone out on a Tuesday to see if there was work done on a Sunday?" I asked. "That makes no sense."
"That's the best we can do, ma'am," was her reply. No doubt this complaint will be "resolved" like all the others. Meaning nothing at all will be done. If a building falls on a Sunday and nobody at the DOB hears it happen, did that building ever fall?
when i read Barbara Bush my first thought was
what was the president's mother doing at a bar in williamsburg?
Note to self:
more coffee!
