If you know any oddball teens, you have to buy them James St. James' new book, Freak Show. Now I am not one for young adult reads (Harry who?), but I was given the book by my friend Carly and did not stop kvelling once through the whole thing.
Super Freak is the story of Billy Bloom, a super-fabulous, yet wildly misunderstood gay teen with tranny tendencies. If you were ever pushed around in high school, you will completely identify. I know I did. I only wish my friends' kids weren't mostly still in diapers, because Auntie Judes would be giving this bad boy out left and right. As unlikely as it sounds, if there's any justice in publishing, James St. James will become the Judy Blume for this generation of maladjusted, misfit teens. I only wish he was writing books back when I was getting slammed into lockers.
Awesome review, I'm having James for a reading and signing on Sept. 1 so I will pass this on!
xoxo
