I realize I've been remiss in my television coverage lately. Though with the L Word on hiatus, there's really not much out there. I'm bored of the Sopranos and have completely given up on Big Love. So if anyone wants to have easter dinner, my Sundays are free!
But one show remains on my must-see TV list . . . one pinnacle of greatness that cannot be missed. Of course I'm speaking of Jonathan Antin and his fantabulous Blow Out crew. Last night did not disappoint.
Fresh off the rigors of New York Fashion Week (thank you, Charles Nolan, you are a genius!) Jonathan had to jet off to Pennsylvania to appear on QVC. These episodes are always good, because the small-town peeps at QVC, just don't get Jonathan and so try to reign him in. Our heavily inked bad boy had this to say about their attempts at curbing his lingo: "I can call a dude a chick and a chick a dude and it doesn't [expletive deleted!] matter!" True that!
In between events, J found time to wind down with a shrink visit. Jonathan's new therapist, a sort of comically robotic would-be actor with a PhD and an eye job, is a little disconcerting. As our boy sobs about every old thing under the sun, Mr. Shrinky Dink merely mirrors everything he says back at him.
For example, when Jonathan weeps about how much he loves his new baby, Mr. Shrink meeps back, "Your child is very important to you," with an unblinking stare. (Paraphrase, but you get my point.) A normal person would find this course of therapy excruciating—not to mention irrirating—but not our Jonathan. He likes it when people agree with him!
Not that therapy hasn't helped Our Hairness. In fact, he's become a bit of an amateur philosopher this season. I'll leave you with this little tidbit of wisdom: "You need to stay in the moment and for me, that moment is hair." Word.
Other snackbite-sized bits of profundity after the jump:
From a recent People magazine interview:
- Golf is definitely a safe haven for me – it's my form of spirituality.
- I look at Blow Out kind of like Rocky.
- I wanted the dudes that watch the show to know that therapy is a good thing. [Note to Jonathan—I think most of the "dudes" sitting home watching Blow Out are well in touch with their inner girl.]
From a recent EW interview:
- Everything makes me cry. I have a lot of emotion, and I'm very passionate about everything I do — taking care of my boy, taking care of my girl, doing hair, creating product, playing golf, teaching hair stylists how to do hair, and everything in life.
- A couple of weeks ago, my assistant was at the end of a haircut, and she came up to me and was telling me about it and started crying. I said, ''What are you crying about?'' And she said, ''Because I can't do it like you do it, and I just don't feel like I'm ever gonna be able to!'' I asked her, ''Does it hurt?'' She said, ''Yeah.'' And I told her, ''Good. 'Cause it should. And you know what? That pain is gonna make you as good, if not better, than me. Hold on to that pain, 'cause it's that pain that's gonna drive you to perfection.'' That was amazing! I almost started crying at the end of that.
- Half the people talking s---
are jealous. I talk s--- too sometimes, and it's only because I might
be a little jealous. You wanna step up into my face and talk s---? Have
at it. It's a bad place to be. [Whoo, scary!]
- Excuse my French, but I don't give a s--- what people think or say about me.
like you pointed out, judes, jonathan IS HAIR.
and his baby ash's "head smells like.....baby."
the show's brilliance is not only about jonathan's philosophy but watching the master nail that perfect layered signature do is just pure art.

Antin is awesome. Apparently he also got some community service for beating his girlfriend back in the day. In fact, that may be why the show got cancelled, because it was still an awesome show, even as a Jonathan Product infomercial.
This is classic.
