Normally I keep it pretty light around here, but what with the elections right around the corner, even the goofiest goofball should be a little informed. Which is why I recommend everyone reading this read this Salon article on the government's shuttering of EPA Public Libraries. It doesn't sound like such a scintillating read (and yes, you have to sit through a boring ad), but it's a sobering story. And one that should get you to the voter booth next Tuesday. As someone who lives in an extremely toxic area, it's doubly depressing.
The news from Oaxaca is utterly horrifying. I feel ashamed that it took the death of an American activist/journalist for me to read more extensively about it. My friends Betty Russell, Peter Kuper and their daughter Emily moved down there a couple months back and I have all fingers and toes crossed that things simmer down real soon.
Back to the usual stupidity: While I do not condone what this koo-koo dame did, I can't help but find it just a little bit funny. Yeah, yeah, I know it's awful, but c'mon. . . who hasn't wanted to go all Alex Forrest at least once or twice. . . .
If you dress up like a burrito this Halloween, you can get a free one at Chipotle.
This afternoon, I received a galley of the lovely Molly Crabapple's upcoming book, Dr. Sketchy's Rainy Day Colouring Book and it's gorgeous! If you like naked ladies, crayons, or burlesque, it's for you.
I stole—I mean, borrowed—that photo from a nice online gallery at Temple University.
